Writers Unite! MEETinLEEDS supports local women’s writing retreat
12 July 2019: MEETinLEEDS, the conference facilities of the University of Leeds, is proud to have supported the upcoming Mslexicon event; a weekend retreat created for female authors, set in the heart of Leeds. Organised by Mslexia, a quarterly magazine committed to helping female writers progress and succeed, the retreat will run from Friday 12th – Sunday 14th July and will take place at Devonshire Hall, a historic Grade II listed manor house in the city.
Aimed at female writers of creative prose including novels, short fiction, memoirs and all types of narrative non-fiction, the retreat is designed to foster creativity and provide attendees with the skills and confidence to achieve their writing goals.
With the venue perfectly located near to Leeds city centre, the event will allow writers from across the UK to nurture their craft and progress their career with the help of leading agents, authors, tutors and mentors, who have all been hand-picked for their commitment and knowledge in supporting women writers.
Their group workshops, talks and panel discussions will cover craft issues such as character development, voice and plot, as well as career advice on publishing trends, performance skills, prioritising your creativity, and how to cope with the submissions rollercoaster.
The retreat will also offer multiple opportunities between sessions for networking with professionals and like-minded women, as well as an extensive schedule of social events.
Harriet Boatwright, Sales and Marketing Manager at MEETinLEEDS, commented: “We’re delighted to be assisting with the Mslexia Writing Retreat, and knew from the moment we heard the organisers’ requirements how perfect Devonshire Hall was for the event itself. The Grade II listed manor house is set conveniently close to Leeds city centre, making use of the city’s extensive road and rail connections, and the beautiful building has plenty of social spaces – such as the garden and the bar – which will give the attendees plenty of opportunities to network as they take part in a packed programme of both writing and social events. We look forward to seeing the legacy of the retreat through the work written during their time at Devonshire Hall!”
