Highlights of the Week – Friday 31 March
A look at the announcements and our favourite events from the past week. Let us know what we missed!
4. Staff Benefits Fair 2017
We have already expounded the benefits of working at the University of the Year and unfortunately this event is applicable to university staff only. If you are jealous you can always have a look at the latest vacancies here to come and work with us!
Come to the Refectory on Tuesday 4th April from 10:30 for a chance to find out more about the wide range of benefits and discounts available to University staff. There will be an opportunity to meet benefit providers and get information on your pension scheme, get yourself an NUS extra card and to find out how you can travel between Leeds and York on the bus for just £6 return.
Save money on travel with the MCard, a first Bus monthly season ticket or a Railcard loan. You’ll also have the chance to join My Club Nissan where you can make savings of up to 24% off a brand new Nissan vehicle, including their electric range.
Complimentary tea and coffee courtesy of the excellent Great Food at Leeds will be available too!
3. Architectural Awards and Sneak Peak of New Building
Our friends at the Campus Developments team are busy creating a world class campus by transforming existing sites and creating new places for the education, innovation and research that happens at the University of Leeds.
One of the latest projects is the Nexus Innovation and Enterprise Centre, which “will be a high profile gateway to research and innovation at the University and UK-leading environment for collaboration and partnership.” Work is well underway and you can see what the process will look like in the video.
Even with all of the projects on the go they have still found time to pull in the awards for 3 of the newest additions to the campus at the 26th Leeds Architecture Awards:
- The installation of the untitled Bas-Relief sculpture on the side of the Stage@Leeds was highly commended in the public realm and landscape design category. Bodington Hall’s architects, Jones and Stocks, subcontracted Hubert Dalwood to create the frieze for the hall’s refectory block in 1961. The sculpture was saved and moved to Stage@Leeds and refurbished in spring 2016.
- The Laidlaw Library received a commendation in the New Building Category.
- The Multi–Storey Car Park was highly commended in the Young People’s Review category.
The £520 million investment in the development of the campus is especially exciting for the MEETinLEEDS team as it means we have more and even better equipped spaces for conferences and events to add to our already impressive array of venues!
Campus Developments also bring you the latest disruption notices from around the university, so give them a follow on Twitter and stay in the know!
2. MEETinLEEDS on Tour
We are going exhibition crazy over the next few months, as we hit two of the biggest and best shows for event professionals and host the Suppliers Easter Fair.
We will be giving you the opportunity to #DiscoverCampus (a Twitter-y clue for you there) and we hope to see you at one of them, so if you are interested in conferences and events in Leeds (which we will assume you are, because you are reading this!) come and have a chat with us.
