MEETinLEEDS invests in new system ahead of busy Easter period, and commits to an initiative to be single-use plastic free by 2023

MEETinLEEDS are delighted to welcome the Conference and Hospitality Show back to the city of Leeds for the fourth year this year, as the show celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2019.

CHS returns to the city as the biggest show outside of London, and MEETinLEEDS are delighted to be supporting the event by offering all VIP delegates a reusable tote bag, which comes as part of the University of Leeds’ wider commitment to sustainability in the industry with their 2023 Single-Use Plastic Free campaign. Announced late last year, the campaign will see the University of Leeds phase out single-use plastics across the next 5 years, and will see the international academic institution take steps to entirely phase out single-use plastics across catering, apparatus and equipment used by 2023.

Alongside supporting CHS this year and the wider sustainability initiative undertaken by The University of Leeds this year, the team at MEETinLEEDS are also gearing up for an extremely busy Easter period of conferencing, which will be supported by their recent investment in a brand new conference management system.

The new system, which was selected after a rigorous tender process, supports the requirements of clients at the academic venue and ensures the best possible registration experience for delegates. The Aventri conference management system has been adopted to enable the team to provide registration for both simple and complex conferences, manage abstracts and provide website templates that can be adapted to suit the needs of both internal and external clients. Removing the need to work across multiple databases and pull in external suppliers for support, the Aventri system allows MEETinLEEDS to better facilitate events taking place at the University and streamline the process for its clients.

The investment and implementation of the Aventri system came at a perfect time for the team, ahead of a variety of prominent events for The University of Leeds. One of the most notable events taking place in the Parkinson Building at the University from 3rd-5th April is the SLSA Annual Conference, which has been running since 1990 and will be hosted at The University of Leeds for the second time. The conference, which will see over 300 delegates attend to disseminate knowledge in the field of socio-legal studies, has been in planning since 2016, with the MEETinLEEDS team supporting the academic team on site to organise and facilitate the annual event.

Another highlight of the conference season will be the BALEAP Conference: Innovation, Exploration and Transformation. The organisation, which supports the professional development of those involved in the learning, teaching, scholarship and research in English for Academic Purposes, has been working with MEETinLEEDS since 2016 on this event. The new system has been implemented for this conference, and is currently being utilised for the registrations.
