Communication really does Matter!

MEETinLEEDs celebrates return of award winning Communication Matters conference.

Conference Awards 2018 - MEETinLEEDS and Communication Matters

MEETinLEEDS is delighted to announce that the University of Leeds has again been chosen to host the annual Communication Matters conference, taking place between 9 – 11 September 2018.

Over 400 attendees are expected to attend the conference, which will include over 80 presentations, a very popular exhibition of the UK’s leading suppliers of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) products, social events and more. The conference will see three aspects of evidence-based practice discussed in a series of platform sessions, which include best research evidence, clinical and professional experience and personal stories and preferences.  In addition to platform presentations there will be poster sessions on the Monday & Tuesday and further participatory events for delegates.

Communication Matters is encouraging and supporting AAC users to attend the event, which includes a conference survival guide to outline some of the best ways to enjoy the sessions.

Communication Matters is a UK-based charitable organisation, which works to promote the best possible communication for people with complex communication needs. They deliver training, support research and lobbying, to promote a vision where all individuals have a right to a ‘voice’ through the provision of equipment and ongoing support services. Lee Ridley, winner of Britain’s Got Talent 2018 and nicknamed Lost Voice Guy, is a Patron for Communication Matters.

Ruth McMorran, Co-Chair of Communication Matters, commented: “We are very much looking forward to the event and we couldn’t think of a better venue than the University of Leeds. We feel the work we carry out is very important, helping people with complex needs improve their communication skills through training, support research and lobbying, and this conference is a great way to bring people together for discussion and ideas sharing.”

Harriet Boatwright, Sales and Marketing Manager at MEETinLEEDS, commented: “We are incredibly excited and honored to remain the host for the Communications Matters conference here in Leeds. It is a fantastic organisation and we are privileged to support the work they do. We work alongside the team at Communication Matters, not only as a client and venue, but as co-hosts, to ensure we offer so much more than just the venue to this amazing organisation and to the attending delegates.”
